A tennis legend bids farewell: Milos Raonic's retirement leaves a mark on the sport.
The End of an Era
Milos Raonic, a former Wimbledon finalist, has announced his retirement from tennis, leaving a lasting impact on the sport. At 35, Raonic reflects on a career filled with dreams realized and memorable moments.
But here's where it gets controversial... Raonic's journey wasn't just about the wins; it was about the love for the game.
In 2016, Raonic beat the legendary Roger Federer to reach the Wimbledon final, only to be defeated by Andy Murray. That year, he also achieved a career-high ranking of three and reached the Australian Open semi-finals.
"The time has come," Raonic posted, "I'm retiring from tennis." He adds, "You know this day will come, but you're never truly ready."
Known for his powerful serve, Raonic earned the nickname 'Missile.' His last match was at the 2024 Olympics, where he lost in the first round to Dominik Koepfer of Germany.
"I've been incredibly fortunate to live my dreams," Raonic said. "Tennis became my obsession, my childhood, and my life."
Born in Titograd, Yugoslavia (now Podgorica, Montenegro), Raonic moved to Canada at age three. He won his first ATP title at the Pacific Coast Championships in 2011.
"What's next? I'm not slowing down. I'm as motivated as ever, just like when I broke through in 2011. I'll bring that same intensity to my next chapter."
And this is the part most people miss... Raonic's retirement isn't just about the end of a career; it's a celebration of a life dedicated to a sport.
